summer

It's here! My favourite time of year. The sun transforms me into a productive, inspired, healthy and happy person which means, summer is the season I most look forward to. Some of my goals this summer are: 1. learn how to play tennis 2. blog more often 3. read the pile of books beside my bed 4. read the manual for my camera from cover to cover and  5. try not to rush as much (I'm always rushing).  I have a calendar filled with fun projects, concerts, parties and weekend get-a-ways. I can't wait!      IMG_4663

music monday

I haven't done a music monday in a while.  I realized that I tend to blog mostly on the weekends so instead of a music monday, I'll  post a video whenever I feel like it.  No pressure that way.  I heard this song by Jon and Roy on the Vinyl Cafe last weekend and looked it up right away.  The singer has such a sweet voice and the video is wonderful too.  A perfect song to go with the warmest and sunniest Saturday we have seen in Toronto in a long, long time.  Winter, you were an asshole to stick around for so long but all is forgiven now because spring is here and she is incredible.  Yay!

spring break

We are spending a blissful week in Florida with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. The weather is sunny and warm and the kids are relaxed and happy. We all needed this break away from school, work, everything. We are ready to go back and face reality with sunshine on our faces and the happy thought that our summer is only a few short months away.

made my day...

the boy #2

He should really have his own show.  The Ashy Show.  The wonderful world of Asher is filled with jokes, quirkiness, interesting insights, affection and happiness.  He doesn't let everyone into his amazing world so when you are invited you feel extra special.  My little ninja boy, lover of all things lego, giver of butterfly kisses and monkey hugs and adorer of his big brother Ezra.  He is one in a million.

the boy

I put up a simple background on the wall in my dining room today and attempted a mini photo shoot of the kids.  These are Ezra's outtakes.  When I photograph him I get goosebumps.  Behind that beautiful face is a broody, defiant, intense kid.  A teenager stuck in an eight year old body.  He is heart breaking to me because he makes life so hard for himself sometimes.  There is another side to him though that I think some of these pictures capture.  A loveable, bright, funny, sweet little boy who loves hockey, playing drums, making his brother laugh and is most comfortable at home doing his own thing.  Oh and he's decided that he's never getting another hair cut again which makes us crazy but we're going with it for now.

Now we are six (round 2)

Asher turned six yesterday!  It seems like his brother just turned six not too long ago and now this!  Ezra gave him some important brotherly advice on the night before his birthday that was really very sweet.  He basically said that when you are six there are new responsibilities that you must take on but things get a lot more interesting as well.  He then told him that he would miss Asher's five year old person and then there was lots of hugging and kissing.  Where is the video camera when you need it?  These boys of mine make me so proud.  Their relationship has been a constant source of amusement and happiness for us (with a little dose of frustration of course). I hope they remain connected like they are now throughout their lives because having a sibling can be a true gift.  I just love them so fiercely.  Back to the party though.. Asher turned six and we had a lovely little party for him with five of his closest buddies.  He couldn't have chosen five sweeter boys to have as friends.  The party went off without a hitch.  A small, relaxed party for my happy, mellow boy.  Perfect.
