I am the Walrus

Not a day goes by in our house where we don't listen to or sing a song by the Beatles. Their music is a big part of our lives and that makes me very happy. Here's Ezra and Asher singing I am the Walrus. Ezra is very serious about it, Asher...he's just ridiculously cute and funny.

The following is a top ten list I've compiled that gets heavy rotation in our iTunes library. You can click on any of them to see a video or hear a song:

They Might be Giants
Not only are they the coolest band for kids ever, but they are educational as well. Their new album, Here Comes the Science, is fantastic. Asher who is 3 can sing the names of all the planets in our solar system and tell you what four elements we are made up of. Amazing!

Dan Zanes
He is my absolute favourite musician for children. I could listen to him even without the kids around (and I have). Love, love, love him!

Justin Roberts
He has a really nice voice and his songs are modern and catchy.

Laurie Berkner
One of the only "girl" musicians that the kids will listen to.

The Wiggles
I can't believe how many times a day we need to listen to the Wiggles. It makes me crazy but the boys adore the music and they dance like crazy whenever their on.

Pete Seeger
Pure and simple music that children really respond to.

Medeski, Martin and Wood: Let's go everywhere
Funky and fun.

Jazz for kids: Sing, Clap, wiggle
Ella sings a version of Old Macdonald's farm like you have never heard before.

Velvet Underground
For some reason Ezra requests them all the time. He especially likes the song I linked to.

The White Stripes
Great head banging music for my little rockers.

I would love to add something new to the repertoire. Any good kid's music that is a hit in your home?

  1. how did i not know you started this blog?? your posts are great and i had a hard time choosing where to leave a comment. but i thought i'd share that i too can - and do - listen to dan zane on my own and jay teases me for it. luckily sadie likes his music too. and still try to check out kimya dawson's "alphabutt" - we are playing it all the time now and it made our 9-hour road trip possible.
